Creon

While reading about Oedipus's life falling apart, Creon's words in response to Oedipus persuade me to believe him immediately. Before Jocasta tells her side of the story, Oedipus is ready to kill Creon for sending the prophet and supposedly accusing him of killing his father. Creon's response to Oedipus's rashness is beautifully written. Creon basically says that he does not need the title of king; he is not after power. Creon has learned "wisdom and self-control". Creon says, "In time you will know all with certainty; time is the only test of honest men, one day is space enough to know a rogue". Creon's words stuck out to me because they are filled with truth and wisdom; he is not worried about Oedipus wanting to kill him. Oedipus is quick to anger and pass judgment, but Creon contrasts him by saying that time is the only real test to know if someone is trustworthy. My question is, if Creon sent the prophet, then did he know all along?
