A Vivid Picture

Dante paints a picture of hell with his words as he first enters in Canto Three. The way he describes the sounds and sights helps me visualize and imagine being there. It is a scary thought. His reaction also goes to tell how terrible this place really is. He weeps and says, "A blind of horror held my brain." It makes me think about how horrible hell truly is and how sad I am for those who will spend eternity there. It makes me want to share the gospel and do all that I can to prevent people from being separated from God forever.

  1. I was also caught up in the horrific imagery Dante uses to describe Hell. It definitely points to the urgency of sharing the Gospel.

  2. The imagery is quite harsh but its all true . A great modern depcition is a video called Letter from Hell and I feel like this book is going to remind me of that.

  3. At camp, there was a saying: "Hell isn't just a destination, it should be our motivation." As Christians, the thought of people going to hell should break our hearts.

  4. The reality of Hell I feel is sometimes hard to believe. The picture that he gives is a rude awakening.

  5. “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.” This quote by Charles Spurgeon, exemplifies the urgency Christians should have when it comes to sharing the Gospel. I don't think we will ever be able to live with this amount of abandon unless we truly grasp the magnitude of Hell.
