Higher Thoughts

"What you ask from me is above me, and I am afraid to handle "the things that are too high for me."

I think this is a good reminder that we can't ever truly know the things that God knows. We should desire to know God better because of our love for him but, it would be ignorant to say that we will ever grasp the nature of God. There are many mysteries in this world that we will never understand. This is frustrating but, if we were able to know all these things what would separate us from him.

P.S.: I commented on Dallas' and Hannah's Posts.

  1. I agree that we will never fully be able to understand or know what God knows; and while it is frustrating, we get to trust Him to have all the knowledge. Desiring to know God or to understand Him better is not a bad thing, but we can become prideful if we seek the knowledge rather than being drawn in by Himself.

  2. I agree. Trying to understand the things of God can lead to dangerous waters, because sometimes one is to simply trust in God's will and works.

  3. My interpretation of this statement by Anselm is his expression of humility as a finite being in comparison to an infinite God. This is a dire necessity to the salvation message and the center of Christianity, however it does not stop there (as Anselm and Boso show us). Truth seeking is the next step God has us take after belief/faith. Are not our works supposed to be the products of our pursuing greater knowledge?
