Christianity Today

I found the crusades book to be very interesting. I never knew that some groups used to torture Christians as harshly as they did. It shows how blessed we are today that Christianity is accepted more in different areas of the world.  I feel like some Christians nowadays might renounce their faith if they knew they would have to endure what the Christians did in the book. It's almost like being a Christian has become more of a title than a faith sometimes.

I commented on Daniel and Hannah's posts.

  1. Westernized Christianity would never had survived in a time such as that. Probably why it isn't alive outside of the richer, Westernized nations. We see people going through this kind of persecution all over the world, and they are more on fire for God than we are. Persecution is not something to dread but rather to rejoice in. To quote Christ from the Beatitudes "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:12

  2. I have often wondered how persecution would impact the American church. In general, the Christians here like to remain comfortable. Persecution would probably help the church in America in that it would spur people on to live out their faith in more seriously.

  3. It seems that the church has always grown most in times of great persecution. I believe that the true Church in the United States would be stronger today if it were persecuted more than it has been.

  4. It is heartbreaking to think that Christians may not have the same amount of faith as these crusaders. I would hope that isn't the case, but it makes one wonder.

  5. I was aware that Christians have been tortured, and are still being tortured, for their faith. However, it puts it in a whole new light when you hear details and stories of what exactly happened during torture/persecution/execution. I agree with your last statement, it is sad that Christianity has become more of a title sometimes than an actual faith that we are challenged to live out daily.
